Former lifelong liberal Brandon Straka has kicked off a grassroots social media effort to encourage others to exit the Democratic Party and the left in general.
He has created a Facebook platform for what he calls the “unsilent minority” which is accompanied by the #WalkAway hashtag on Twitter.
Starting with his recent powerful video that went viral, Straka has created companion Facebook platforms for the The Unsilent Minority and the Walk Away Campaign for others to share their own similar messages and ideological experiences.
In a companion video, Brandon Straka, a self-described gay man who lives in New York City, claimed that he voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election and cried on Election Night when she lost. He documented his despondency on video. Yet now apparently supports Donald Trump.
At the time, he says that he got all his news from CNN and MSNBC, but then apparently changed course when he began to do additional research beyond the mainstream media. He also claims that various life experiences over the years caused him to be become gradually disillusioned with liberalism and identity politics.
Straka maintains that he was initially reluctant to make a video that challenged liberal talking points given that all his friends were on the left of the political spectrum.
Once he became a “newly converted conservative,” he apparently encountered an outpouring of hostility from his friends, equivalent to “releasing the Kraken.”

Straka also claims that the U.S. is on the brink of an exciting cultural shift on the part of minorities, including the LGBT community, who are fed up with Democrats and who will renounce globalism and socialism, reject victimhood, and join up with the GOP.
In launching the #WalkAway campaign in late May, Brandon Straka summarized his views.
“The Democratic Party has taken for granted that it owns racial, sexual, and religious minorities in America. It has encouraged groupthink, hypocrisy, division, stereotyping, resentment, and the acceptance of victimhood mentality. And all the while, they have discouraged minorities from having independent thought, open dialogue, measured and informed opinion, and a motivation to succeed.”
In his initial six-minute monologue which has received about one million views on Facebook so far and about 50,000-plus on YouTube, the activist didn’t mince words.
“Once upon a time I was a liberal, but liberalism has changed, and I will no longer be part of an ideology or political party that represents everything that contradicts my values of unity, equal opportunity, personal empowerment, compassion and love….”
Agree or disagree, Brandon Straka explained on a radio interview how and why he moved away from liberalism.
It’s worth noting that many Trump-voting Democrats (which used to be called Reagan Democrats), independents, and others in the Trump populist coalition have little regard for the Republican Party establishment either.
