On Patrol: Live Recap for February 7, 2026 (#OPL Episode 04-52)

  • Hazen, Ark. — In the video clip below, Chief Bradley Taylor provides backup on a traffic stop. He and the cooperative driver know each other and have a friendly interaction. The motorist is detained for an alleged stolen gun; car search. Chief Taylor’s arrival results in verification that the driver’s gun is legal because “when you run that patent number, it comes back as a stolen gun. But you got to look at that littler bitty serial sticker…that’s got the serial number on there.” The driver is released. Chief Taylor good-naturedly quips to the jovial driver about the other officer: “He’s gonna apologize…he’s gonna give you a hug and make everything be better, okay?”

Listen below as studio analyst Sean Larkin provides an explanation about the two different numbers after which Dan Abrams admits that “I think I sort of understand it”:

  • Clayton County, Ga.On Patrol: Live caption: “Tracking reckless driver.” Lieutenant Jonathan Carey and Deputy Devon Brown initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle that was moving at 106 mph in a 65-mph zone. Potential infractions: speeding, reckless driving, expired tags.” Lt. Carey: “He’s gonna get a few tickets.”
  • Berkeley County, S.C. — Corporal Mikayla Rissanen makes friendly contact with motorists at a car meetup: “…they’re not doing anything wrong. They’re just having a good time, and they said they’re gonna behave, so as long as they don’t cause us any problems tonight, they they can have fun, and hang out wither their friends, and enjoy some nice cars.”
  • Lee County, Fla. — Deputy Mike Knapp makes friendly contact with a man who is dancing outside a karaoke bar: “I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” Deputy Knapp also claims that “Initially, he had no shirt on. It’s a little chilly for southwest Florida. Just checked…to make sure he was okay…He had open containers, which is an ordinance violation, so we just got out to talk with him…some decent dancing.” On Patrol: Live caption: “Parkour prancing in public.”

Abrams: “Not a crime to dance. You guys remember the movie where it was a crime to dance? Can you name it?” Larkin: “Footloose.”

  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officer Christopher Coleman and other units are on patrol at the Krewe of Orion Mardi Gras parade.

Abrams: “Mardi Gras activities that used to go on before cell phones are slightly different, then, now that cell phones are everywhere…you can’t really do the things they used to do in Mardi Gras days…I went to Mardi Gras…I got some beads…”

  • Hazen, Ark. –In a light-hearted moment, On Patrol: Live airs a brief cutaway to Hazen PD Chief Taylor singing in his squad car. On Patrol Live caption: “Hazen Idol.” Larkin: “There’s reason why some of us are police officers and not musicians — myself included.”
  • Richland County, S.C. — In the video clip below, Corporal TJ Norton makes a traffic stop for allegedly running a red light. “Red means stop, yellow means slow down, and green means go.” Abrams: “She has been educated now on that ‘nuance.'” Larkin: “We’re always learning something here.”
  • Clayton County, Ga. (pre-recorded segment) — In the video clip below, Deputy Desmond Wilson and other units pursue and apprehend a suspect in alleged armed robberies after an alert from a license plate reader:
  • Knox County, Tenn. — Officer Ashley Coons, with K9 Tyoson, is among the cops converging on a home on a report of an alleged residential burglary in progress. A male who comes out of the house is detained. The man may be the homeowner, however. Abrams: “It seems that this was his house….it was reported as a potential burglary in progress. Seems it may have been something — the homeowner himself, but a little unclear.”

Listen below to Tom Rizzo discuss the police cautiousness in deploying the K9 under these circumstances:

Listen below to Officer Coons’ preliminary incident recap:

  • Toledo, Ohio — Officers John Oberthaler and Stone York, along with other cops, investigate a shots-fired incident. Three shots were allegedly fired in the area. Officer York: “Of course, nobody heard, seen anything, but we got shell casings. No people, no buildings struck.”
  • Knox County, Tenn. — Officer Nathan Pandolfi responds to a house fire. The fire department is on scene. Unfortunately, one person is reported to have died at the location.
  • Clayton County, Ga. On Patrol: Live caption: “Tracking stolen vehicle.” Police make a traffic stop on a truck that allegedly or supposedly either may be stolen or have a stolen tag on it. It turns out, however, that the stopped vehicle is uninvolved owing to a misreading of the tag; the driver is released. Deputy Brown: “…he’s good; it’s not him….he’s good to go…” Abrams: “A misread on a tag; happens a lot.”

Listen below to Deputy Brown’s explanation of the encounter followed by some related On Patrol: Live studio commentary:

Sean Larkin: “….Both of these things we’ve seen tonight between the gun and this, though, have been fantastic in the way that people that were stopped reacted. They let the officers do their job, understood, and went about their night.”

On Patrol: Live Hour 2

  • Triple Play #2 — a Fond du Lac County, Wisc., police pursuit:
  • Lee County, Fla. On Patrol: Live caption: “Officer in need of assistance.” Deputy Knapp provides backup on scene for this incident to backup officers on a felony stop in involving a subject who allegedly tried to hit a K9 unit with a car. Cops already detained an individual at the location. The fire department also responds. Deputy Jacob Sahagian is also on scene.

Abrams: “We talked about this before — when there’s a call for an officer in need of assistance, any agency…nearby is gonna respond.” Tom Rizzo: “Absolutely. Different roles for the other agencies, but it’s gonna be a force multiplier to ensure the safety at that scene and organization at the scene.”

  • Baton Rouge, La.On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of shooting.” Officer Coleman, along with many colleagues, responds to a disturbance. Officer Coleman: “As of right now, it turns out it wasn’t actually a shooting. I guess the guy got into a fight. It came out as a shooting, so it was a little miscommunication.” Cops obtain and watch some security footage of a purported fight.

Abrams reacts to the surveillance footage: So it actually looks like they were trying to help this guy…there probably is gonna be no crime there, right? We don’t know, but from what it looks like — we’ll find out.”

  • Lee County, Fla. On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of shots fired.” Deputy Knapp is re-dispatched from the above call to a business location where other officers also converged. Off-duty cops providing security there apparently called it in. An unoccupied vehicle was apparently shot at; a suspect vehicle with three occupants allegedly fled the scene. Police talk to at least two witnesses and review security footage. On Patrol: Live caption: “Investigating shooting.” Deputy Knapp implies that the investigation is trying to determine if it’s a deliberate shooting or the suspects were just acting recklessly.

Listen below to the studio panel initially react to this incident:

Abrams: “…sometimes the specifics aren’t necessarily accurate.” Larkin: “…it’s kind of like the game of Telephone…”

  • Richland County, S.C.On Patrol: Live caption: “Serving attempted murder warrant.” Sergeant Ethyn Perkins, Captain Danny Brown, and other units are on scene at a hotel and detain two individuals in the hallway. Bleeping. In the video clips below, Sgt. Perkins (“I misspoke a little bit earlier…”) and Cpt. Brown provide significant clarifications as to what allegedly is or might be actually going on. Investigation ongoing.

On Patrol: Live host Dan Abrams: “It seems this was not an attempted murder warrant. It seems that there was someone who made an allegation that someone tried to kill them, but now that is even uncertain, because this guy is saying he didn’t have any bullets in the weapon at all. So that seems to be in question as well. Again, like we were talking about before, what you hear in the initial report, not necessarily the case when you arrive…so we don’t even know if they’re gonna get charged with anything.”

Listen below to Sgt. Perkins’ update:

Dan Abrams [reacting to Sgt. Perkins’ update]: “So correction there: They have not been arrested. We have heard Captain Danny Brown talking about possible charges there, but it sounds like they have not decided yet on any charges. So we will found out what happens.”

  • Toledo, Ohio — Officers Oberthaler and York respond to a report of a fight in progress in a residential area and make contact with the vocal complainant. Bleeping.

Listen below to Officer Oberthaler’s preliminary recap:

  • BOLO segment — a Miami, Fla., hit-and-run suspect.

On Patrol: Live Hour 3

  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Sergeant Christopher Maher assists on a pursuit of fleeing vehicle that crashed in the city but then learns that a neighboring agency had stopped the suspect car. “It sounds like the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office got the suspect detained. I’m still gonna go up there to see if they need help with the crash.”
  • Clayton County, Ga.On Patrol: Live caption: “Responding to multi-person fight.” Deputy Brown and Lt. Carey arrive on scene allegedly at a house party at an Airbnb in what Deputy Brown describes as a “known gang area.” Police make contact with one or more individuals on scene and also try to disperse the crowd there. Bleeping.
  • Berkeley County, S.C. (pre-recorded segment) — In the video clip, below, Cpl. Rissanen and other deputies make a DUI arrest:
  • Berkeley County, S.C. — In what is allegedly a recurring problem, Cpl. Rissanen makes contact with one or more individuals who are apparently partying in a church parking lot. Listen below as the corporal indicates that the church potentially wants to pursue charges for the ongoing property damage.
  • Toledo, Ohio— Detectives Aaron Dudley and Nate Insley detain a man possibly for an expired plate. Warning issued.
  • Hazen, Ark. — At a friendly traffic stop, Chief Taylor issues a warning for an expired driver’s license: “I can’t be a hypocrite because I’ve done the same thing…” The chief separately adds that “we do dumb stuff as men; we don’t pay attention.”
  • Daytona BeachOn Patrol: Live caption: “Searching for male hiding in yard.”Sgt. Maher, his brother Lieutenant Richie Maher, and other units, including a K9, locate a subject on scene. The subject’s ankle is injured. Paramedics summoned. Lt. Maher: “His ankle is facing the wrong direction, so we’ll get medics up here to check him out. Probably gonna take him to the hospital for that because the ankle’s supposed to go that way, not that way.” In the video below, Sgt. Maher claims, among other things, that the subject fled because he doesn’t have a license. After mentioning other forms of alleged evidence, Sgt. Maher says “a logical person would believe that he was the driver.” Abrams: “Sergeant Maher there auditioning for a detective job.”

Abrams: “So the search is on in Daytona Beach where someone who fled from police earlier. There’s a report from a homeowner that there’s someone hiding behind their home. And this may be connected.”

  • Toledo, Ohio — In the video clips below, Officers Oberthaler and York detain a woman on scene who allegedly trashed a convenience store. On Patrol: Live caption: “Wet cleanup on aisle 4?”
  • Christian County, Mo. — Deputy Jacob Woodcock provides backup on a routine traffic stop. The vehicle is towing a trailer loaded with items.
  • Baton Rouge, La. — As the episode concludes, Officers Coleman, Harrell, and Johnson are on a minibike traffic stop. Arrest made in connection with an alleged stolen firearm.
