This Weekend’s On Patrol: Live Highlights, Commentary, and Social Media Activity
An On Patrol: Live recap including NYC studio host Dan Abrams’ puns, analysis, and banter with co-anchor Curtis Wilson (a Richland County, S.C., deputy sheriff), and Captain Tom Rizzo (Howell Township, N.J., PD) along with the often- provocative or playful social media reaction, follows.

In this On Patrol: Live episode on Reelz, #OPNation reacted most strongly to several Monroe, La., incidents featuring Officer Serenity Smith. An alleged squatter in Richland County as well as an incident involving a Daytona Beach motorist who ran out of gas also prompted a lot of Internet traffic. Check back for updates on the still-open incidents.
The studio panel also continue to promote On Patrol: Live merchandise via the Amazon store.
On Patrol: Live departments updates: Lee County, Fla., returns to the show this weekend (although there were no incidents in that agency jurisdiction aired on Friday night). Host/executive producer Dan Abrams has confirmed that On Patrol: Live has put in a request to embed its cameras with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers as they locate and take illegal alien criminals into custody for deportation. And fan favorite Will Armstrong, the Brookford, N.C., police chief, has found himself the subject of a law enforcement investigation over allegedly secretly recording a person about a cold case. Perhaps this is why the anticipated return of Brookford P.D. to On Patrol: Live has yet to occur.

- Richland County, S.C. — Deputy Jerry Cullen responds to a burglary call and makes contact with the homeowner. Deputies, along with a K9, search the area for the suspects.

Deputy Cullen recap: “Again, this gentleman came home, saw two young males run out the front door, and he chased them down the road here, lost sight of them, and stuff like that. He said he usually keeps the TV on, which he didn’t leave it on this time, which both TVs are still here, but there’s obvious signs of a break-in. So Corporal Smith and his squad [are] gonna set up a perimeter, have K9 come out, and see if we can track for them. If we can get them, great. We’ll charge them. If not, we’ll hopefully get some [DNA] swabs and stuff like that to find out their identity and charge them.” On Patrol: Live host Abrams: “Curtis, you were saying, in Richland County, they can do that real quick, the testing.” On Patrol: Live co-host Curtis Wilson: “Absolutely. They’ll go ahead and get these buckle swabs, and also…the fingerprints. Take that — take it over to our lab, get that instant back, see if it matches up with anything.”
Deputy Cullen provides an update on the search below (“so far, no luck”). After Cullen refers to a nearby street named after Joe Frazier, Abrams quips that “it’s nice to see Joe Frazier getting some love there…” Wilson: “Absolutely. South Carolina’s own. World champ boxer.” Abrams: “A lot of Muhammad Ali streets. Not a lot of Joe Frazier…”

- Daytona Beach, Fla. — The Maher brothers (Lt. Richie and Sgt. Chris) assist other officers on what actually is a well-being check on a man at a residence. On Patrol: Live originally described the call as assisting another LEO in some sort of forced entry for someone who was supposedly barricaded in a house. They converge outside the residence and make contact with the subject who appears to be okay. En route to the scene, cars don’t seem to realize that they need to move out of the way of police vehicles.
Oh my gosh! We all felt that @RichardJMaher.
— Keri (@k_guarez) February 8, 2025
Move right for sirens and lights! Seriously people, it's not that hard… 🤦🏼♀️ #OPLive #OPNation #Reelz pic.twitter.com/1XYof3gg2e
Lt. Maher initial summary: “Because it was a well-being check, we were concerned that maybe the individual was down behind the door preventing us from being able to open it. So we had to find another way to get in there. Luckily, the window is unlocked, and we’re gonna just slide it up, and we’re gonna check on him and make sure he’s okay.” Abrams: “And Captain Rizzo actually said this as we’re going to the scene, he said ‘remember when they say barricaded, it doesn’t necessarily mean what we think of as a lay person.’ When they say barricaded, it can mean a lot of different things, and it was a good warning, because that it exactly what this turned out to be.”
- Las Vegas, Nev. — Officers Nicholas Null and Christian Petruic provide backup for other cops on a report of a man with a knife in a residential neighborhood. Two males detained in the investigation. Officer Petruic summary: “So this guy is allegedly our suspect. He does have a knife on him; however, he’s a lot more chill than that guy who is apparently our victim. He’s saying that this guy’s wearing all black, following him from…the casino over here. And he was, like, nervous. I didn’t ask him any of the knife stuff yet, but he was saying that this guy was scaring him, following him, which, if you’re wearing all black, I’d be scared, too. So, I don’t know. We’ll figure it out. Nothing crazy.” Abrams update: “They were both released with no charges.”
- Monroe, La. — Officer Serenity Smith is apparently flagged down by a male outside a house who spews invective at her. Officer Smith remains “serene” during the man’s vitriol, however. Listen below. A friend of the individual apologizes to the officer and convinces the man to go back inside the home. Abrams: “She’s got an awfully good attitude. It’s a good thing Tom Rizzo wasn’t there…” On Patrol: Live studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “I’m here already trying to pull the desk apart.”

“It’s a good thing Tom Rizzo wasn’t there.”
- Hazen, Ark. — Chief Bradley Taylor, along with Sergeant Clayton Dillion, make a friendly traffic stop on a motorist who was traveling 66 mph in the fast lane. Abrams: “One of the rare places you can get pulled over for going too slow at 66.”

- Monroe, La. — Officer Smith along with member of the High Enforcement Apprehension Team (HEAT) squad detain two males at a gas station, one of whom allegedly refuses to ID himself. Cops apparently arrest that individual for allegedly resisting. Officer Nathanael Chapman explains that “we lawfully detained him, and if you don’t tell us your name, that’s resisting.” Listen to Officer Chapman’s recap below:
- Triple Play #1 — A police chase of a carjacked vehicle in Leon County, Fla.
A chopper holds down a car chase in #Tallahassee #Florida, until troopers arrive, keeping tabs on a vehicle that was hijacked at gunpoint in our first #OPL3Play of the weekend.

- Knox County, Tenn. — Officer Christopher Daley and another officer are on scene at a residence for what appears to be a well-being check after a purported 911 call. On Patrol: Live caption: “Responding to domestic incident.” In the course of the investigation, Officer Daley makes contact with a female resident and then finally convinces a couple to exit a truck parked in a car port. Abrams: “They’re trying to figure out who called and why.” In trying to sort out the situation with the persons on scene, Officer Daley seems to conclude that the 911 call might have been accidental. Abrams: “Can we please get out of this?”
On Patrol: Live host Dan Abrams: “Can we please get out of this?”
Listen to Officer Daley’s recap on what he ultimately described as a welfare check (“we ran everybody’s names to make sure nobody had any active warrants and everybody checks out and is okay, so we can get out of here”) followed by a brief panel discussion during which Rizzo refers to the “community caretaking function that gives police officers the lawful authority to do just that — further investigate to make sure that nobody’s at risk.”
- Daytona Beach, Fla. — Sgt. Maher makes contact with a driver of a pickup truck who ran out of gas in the turn lane. He encourages the man to keep his hazard lights on while he’s waiting for help, but “I can’t buy you gas can, man…I can’t buy stuff for you, man…I’m sorry…” Sgt. Maher apparently has a change of heart, or perhaps was ‘encouraged’ to do so by a superior officer in the agency, and returns to the scene with some gas in a gas canister to help the grateful motorist get on his way. “It’s gonna get you at least to the gas station.” On Patrol: Live caption: “Tanks for the memories.”
Sgt Maher handled that guy without gas quickly and respectfully. Although, I find it odd people run out of gas in 2025. I get below 1/2 a tank and I'm looking for a gas station.#OPLive #OnPatrolLive #OPNation #OPLNation #OPLiveNation #OnPatrolNation pic.twitter.com/gJEMrVRkR9

- Clayton County, Ga. — Deputies Malik Clark and Bryant Ferguson race to the scene of a shots-fired call at an apartment complex. Deputy Clark explains that “a person shot call came out, and units got on scene, myself and PD. And come to find out that the caller had a mental health history. So, still we respond to the scene as such, but PD was talking to her…so it’s gonna be negative on a person shot, and we’re gonna pull back in service and let PD do their thing

Officer Smith quips that “at least I got a workout in…” She subsequently mentions that alleged charges include “the obstruction of public passage, the resisting, the illegal carrying of the handgun, as well as possession of marijuana. We have a little saying, a gun a day keeps the HEAT away.”
- Daytona Beach, Fla. — Assisting Volusia County deputies, the Maher brothers and other cops investigate a shooting at a bar just outside the city limits. The scene is locked down. A shell casing is spotted on the ground outside.According to Lieutenant Maher, the suspect vehicle had already fled the scene in a car but is IDed on video. LEOs search the area for same “and see if we get behind this car and get this guy off the road tonight.”

Lieutenant Maher update: “So we’ve got some updated BOLO information, about directions it might be heading, type of car it is. We got some good pictures. The surveillance out there is phenomenal. The footage of him is gonna be phenomenal. We’ll have pictures of him as well. But at this point, we’re just basically tracking through cameras and other, be-on-the-lookout type of things we’re using, like cops in the area, to try and track down where he might be headed. But at this point, no one’s had eyes on the vehicle yet. He will get caught. All bad guys get caught. It just takes time.”
- Clayton County, Ga. — Deputy Ferguson initiates a traffic stop on a wrong-way vehicle with dealer tags. “You’re supposed to be driving on that side. Do you wear glasses when you’re supposed to driver or what?…you spilled your food everywhere? What are you doing, man?…were you even paying attention to the roadway or were you paying attention to your food?” The car, which allegedly has a cancelled registration and no insurance, is towed. The driver is released and told to make arrangements for a ride home. Abrams: “So a lot of problems with that vehicle that is now gonna be impounded.”
:…were you even paying attention to the roadway or were you paying attention to your food?”
- Triple Play #2 – A successful search for an individual in Metropolis, Ill. who cops found hiding in a refrigerator “just chilling out.” Abrams: “…it’s a cool place to hide….certainly a different kind of cold case [that] law enforcement usually has to deal with.”
- Monroe, La. — Officer Smith backs up colleagues on a traffic stop for a DoorDash driver who turns out to have a warrant and is taken into custody. While chatting with Officer Smith, the driver seems to reveal that he urinated in a cup while he was DoorDashing. Abrams jokes that “‘sorry for those spills on the DoorDash that I’m delivering. It’s nothing; don’t worry about it.” Rizzo: “I didn’t pay for the extra sauce.”
#OPLive #OPLiveNation Everyone thinking twice about ordering food at the moment 😂

- Berkeley County, S.C. — Deputy Abdul Tarik makes a traffic stop at a gas station for alleged failure to signal. The motorist indicates that he just got out of jail a few days ago. Car search. Abrams: “This guy is talking about having just been released relatively recently. If he just has marijuana, I don’t think it’s gonna be a problem, shouldn’t be, but we shall see, although that might be…a violation of probation…but it is still just a signal violation.” Deputy Tarik subsequently sends the driver on his way with no charges.
- Las Vegas, Nev. (pre-recorded segment) — Officer Brendan Hansen and other units respond to a domestic-related incident in which a woman allegedly tried to break in to her sister’s or someone else’s home. A woman, who initially gives her age as 21 (but turns out to be 41 based on her DoB) is detained at the scene. Paramedics transport her to the hospital. After investigating, Officer Hanson explains that the subject allegedly “went inside someone else’s house, a neighbor, uninvited, saying she was on her period, and just went inside to use the shower without permission. She’s gonna go to the hospital. We’ll trespass her from the property…”
Causing issues? She ran in a strangers house and used the shower. Yeah. She certainly has issues. #OPLive

- Monroe, La. (pre-recorded segment) — Abrams introduces the segment by mentioning that being “strapped” means something a little different in this incident. Sergeant Scotty Sadler: “You got to be ready at all times, I guess.” According to Corporal Kelsie Wilson, cops issue a speeding ticket to the driver and a summons to the passenger for alleged possession of marijuana. Abrams: “I just loved how long it took the officers to actually understand what it was that she was talking about.” Wilson: “She wasn’t trying to give them a hard time.”

- Monroe, La. — Officer Smith assists colleagues on a traffic stop. Drug paraphernalia allegedly found. The driver is arrested for alleged DUI.
- Richland County, S.C. — Deputy Cullen spots a car parked in the driveway of a vacant property. He also spots someone in the house who ran up the stairs. Other deputies separately detain a woman outside the home who claims that since 2005, she is the president of the United States and that Donald Trump is VP. Abrams quips that “apparently she doesn’t know that the president is only allowed to serve two terms.”
“Apparently she doesn’t know that the president is only allowed to serve two terms.”
Listen to Deputy Cullen’s summary below as well as part of his interaction with the subject. Whether there is an intruder inside the house is unresolved at this point.
Looked like she had a set of keys in her mouth in the back of the house and by the time female officer brought her to the front, she had nothing. Need to search the side of the home…

- Hazen, Ark. — Chief Taylor and colleagues conduct a traffic stop for alleged failure to move over for an emergency vehicle. Cops allegedly find boxes of nicotine vapes “or supposedly nicotine vapes” in the back of the car. Chief Taylor explains that Hazen PD is checking with authorities about the legal implications of the interstate transportation of the goods particularly if there is an attempt perhaps to evade sales tax.
- Berkeley County, S.C. — Deputy Tarik conducts a bicycle stop and pats down the subject who seems to be in need of a manicure. Abrams: “As they try to ‘nail’ down whether there is a crime here, getting in a break.”
Listen to Deputy Tarik’s interim summary of the incident as well as some of his interaction with the subject:
- Clayton County, Ga. — As the episode concludes, Deputy Clark responds to a two-car accident.
