On Patrol: Live Recap for January 23, 2026 (#OPL Episode 04-47)

OPL stats 01_23_26
  • Richland County, S.C.On Patrol: Live caption: “In pursuit.” In the video below, K9 Specialist Datron Washington and Deputy Andreona Sanders, among other units, pursue a fleeing vehicle in a high-speed chase. Traffic stop at gunpoint eventually. On Patrol: Live caption: “Felony stop.” On Patrol: Live caption: “Suspects in custody.” Car search. Drugs allegedly found in a bag.
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officer Ben D’Armond and other cops respond to a report of a 13 year old shot in the back in a residential neighborhood. Police also search outside a home for evidence such as shell casings. Officer D’Armond alludes to “retaliatory shootings” that result in innocent people getting shot: “That’s ridiculous…that’s no good.”

Listen below to Officer D’Armond’s initial incident summary:

Officer D’Armond recap: “Got to the scene right here between these two houses. Got about six or seven shell casings on the ground that we initially found, and then started to find more and more as it goes on….bullet struck in the house right here in the bedroom, and obviously, the juvenile that was struck in the apartment complex. So we’re gonna have detectives be coming out, and hopefully the juvenile’s able to make a full recovery and be all right.”

  • Clayton County, Ga. On Patrol: Live caption: “Wanted for terroristic threats.” Lieutenant Jonathan Carey spots an alleged suspect vehicle in connection with a warrant from another county; traffic stop at gunpoint. On Patrol: Live caption: “Felony stop.” Deputies detain a driver. Car search; a gun and an open container allegedly found.

Abrams: “…the crime itself, he’s a felony warrant for, very serious, for making terroristic threats, but from the law enforcement perspective also, there is a very serious concern about the threats he’s made against law enforcement…”

Deputy Shamari Davis recap: “So we were able to detain this individual, so we’re gonna identify him, verify that he is the person that is wanted, and then we’ll go from there. So he did the right thing; he followed our instructions, and he, luckily, did not make good on his silly threats to shoot at law enforcement, so we’ll see what else he has going on here tonight…like I was saying, it’s a great thing he didn’t make good on his threats. He did have a firearm in this vehicle. Like I said, it probably wouldn’t have ended up well for him, but I’m happy he made the right decision, and kept that firearm where it is, and did the right thing, and gave up peacefully. That county that he has warrants out of does want him. They have been looking for him for a very long time….you come into Clayton County, you’re probably gonna go to jail if you’re a perp…”

  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Lieutenant Richie Maher and Officer Bryan Quinones assists VCAT in the pursuit of a fleeing vehicle. Stick hit. Abandoned car search. Detectives Noah Galbreath and Ray Hurst are on scene as well as Sergeant James Maher and Officer Jonathan Layfield. In the course of the investigation, they also make contact with a man who is uninvolved in the incident who is wearing a “magic is real” T-shirt. The suspect is apparently still at large.

On Patrol: Live host Dan Abrams: “It wasn’t him.”

Lt. Maher: “Did you catch the double entendre with that shirt?…”

  • Baton Rouge, La.On Patrol: Live caption: “Search for stolen vehicle.” Corporal Blake Welborn, Sergeant Jordon Lear, Officer Caruntal Harrell, and other units search for car occupants who allegedly fled on foot. Two guns were left on the ground. Abandoned car search; two guns found inside. Drone, helicopter, and K9 resources deployed in the search. Cops subsequently take four suspects into custody, one whom Officer Harrell interacts with. Abrams: “That drone is amazing…”

Listen below to Sgt. Lear’s initial recap:

Listen below to the On Patrol: Live studio panel briefly discuss this incident as it relates to the weapons:

On Patrol: Live Hour 2

  • Toledo, Ohio — Officer Jack Oberthaler and Stone York, along with other cops, respond to a report of a shooting. They render first aid to a wounded man on a porch of residence; paramedics summoned to the scene. On Patrol: Live caption: “Treating shooting victim.” Officer Oberthaler subsequently indicates that the man may not have been shot.

Listen below as Abrams explains to #OPNation that the show abides by a policy of pulling back the cameras in a sensitive situation of this kind:

Officer Oberthaler update: “So, basically, the caller called in, said they were shot. He told the homeowner he was shot. We just did a field assessment; we didn’t see anything on him. His hands were actively bleeding. That’s about it. He did admit to smoking some drugs. Not sure if that’s what’s part of it. So, medical’s gonna take him to the hospital. They’re gonna assess him there and make sure there’s nothing that we didn’t see. But as of right now, it’s just gonna be an injured person.”

  • Triple Play #1 — a Washington State Patrol pursuit in north Seattle. Dan Abrams epilogue: “That was incredibly intense and what you [Curtis] just said, is incredibly insane. And you bring those things together, and it’s, like, hard to believe.”
  • Lee County, Fla. — Deputies Mike Knapp and Jacob Sahagian on a friendly traffic stop in connection with an alleged car meet where they chat with a man about his body art. On Patrol: Live caption: “Keeping tattoo parlors in business since 2021.” Deputy Knapp: “…obviously, the colorful and illustrious tattoos all over his face, body, and everything…”

Dan Abrams quips that “little known fact. Tom Rizzo grew a beard after he made a mistake on his chin with a tattoo…”

  • Toledo, Ohio — Detectives Aaron Dudley and James Macklin make a traffic stop outside a dollar store. Two occupants. On Patrol: Live caption: “Three dog night?”, “Air rifle found.”
  • Clayton County, Ga. On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of street racing.” Lt. Carey and colleagues pull over two vehicles. Lt. Carey to a driver: “Why are y’all racing? You better give me a good-ass excuse before I take you to jail.”
  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Lt. Maher searches for a suspect who allegedly pulled out a sword from his belt at a bus stop. Lt. Maher: “This is gonna sound super bizarre and odd because I like weapons and stuff. They actually make belt swords…it’s flexible…sounds like this gentleman is a victim of an aggravated assault, potentially, where a male pulled a sword-type item out of his belt area. We’re gonna head over to the area where he last saw the male and see if we can locate anyone matching.” Abrams: “Lieutenant Maher was explaining it, I was trying to picture it…exactly what it would look like…I don’t think the sword itself is flexible. I think it’s the belt…but again, I don’t know…”
  • Christian County, Mo. (pre-recorded segment) — See video below for the friendly interaction as Sheriff Brad Cole pulls over a car. According to Abrams’ prologue, the traffic stop “turned into a modern day ‘witch hunt.'” The sheriff allegedly finds a tooth during a car search: “Where in the world did the tooth come from?”

Abrams: “This is clearly a witch who takes what he does very seriously. He was not willing to put a hex or to do the opposite…a very thoughtful witch…” Rizzo: “Very much so.”

  • Hazen, Ark. — Chief Bradley Taylor gives #OPNation a weather update. “Right now, I feel like it’s the calm before the storm…I think it was 15 degrees outside right now…it’s really cold. Traffic on the interstate right now, thank the lord, has slowed down quite a bit…”
  • Christian County, Mo. — Deputies Jacob Woodcock and Trevor Guinn conduct a traffic stop in connection with a warrant. The cooperative driver is arrested on an alleged outstanding warrant. Consensual car search. Listen below to both deputies recap this incident followed by some comments from the On Patrol: Live studio panel:

Deputy Gunn: “…she’ll be going down to the Christian County jail. Might get a warm, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich. At least she’ll — we’ll — know that she’s gonna stay warm tonight, because it is…very, very cold…”

  • Lee County, Fla. (pre-recorded segment) — Deputy Joshua Roos and other units respond to a domestic incident at a residence allegedly involving a shotgun and arrest a male on scene.

Listen below to Deputy Roos summarize the investigation followed by some commentary from On Patrol: Live co-host Curtis Wilson:

  • Baton Rouge, La.On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of shooting.” Officers respond to this call and render first aid to a wounded man in a car outside an apartment complex. On Patrol: Live caption: “Treating shooting victim.” Paramedics arrive, place the man on a stretcher, and transport him to the hospital. Abrams: “So apparently, this guy was driving his car, and he was shot, and he then ended up crashing the car in the building. Good news is he seems to be — is okay. Airbags deployed. Obviously, that always helps….the good news is the guy has non-life-threatening injuries…” Cops examine some video of the incident.

Listen below to Officer D’Armond’s recap:

  • Hazen, Ark. — Chief Taylor backs up Officer Teddy Walker on a highway traffic stop for expired tags. Alleged weed odor. According to the chief, the cooperative driver allegedly admits to having a little bit of weed in the car. On Patrol: Live caption: “Marijuana found.” Abrams: “Sounds like her car is getting towed for the expired tags. Gonna be late for that gig in Memphis.” Tickets also issued. See second video below.
  • Missing Update and New Missing Segment (Gastonia, N.C.):
  • Toledo, Ohio — In the videos below, and as the episode concludes, Officer Oberthaler and colleagues conduct a traffic stop on a U-Haul truck for allegedly speeding. Alleged seat belt violation by the passenger who initially won’t exit the vehicle or allegedly identify himself. The passenger allegedly has traffic warrants and will likely just receive a summons for a future court date. Officer Oberthaler:”If that’s all it is, it’s a piece of paper, and you’ll be out.” Cops also escort the driver out of the vehicle who appears to become non-compliant. Bleeping. As explained below, the driver also allegedly has warrants and now faces other charges. On Patrol: Live caption: “Suspects arrested on warrants.”

Abrams: “You heard it right there; if the guy in the passenger seat had just identified himself, they both would have gotten summons. It started as a speeding ticket.”
