On Patrol: Live Tonight

#OPL300: In addition to 23 live incidents (which uniquely includes two shout-outs to On Patrol: Live rather than Live PD) in this 300th episode, On Patrol: Live also looks back on flashbacks/memorable incidents per #OPNation by way of video clips of same. Tonight’s incidents also feature several instances of alleged contraband stored in private lockers.

Abrams: “We’re looking back at some of the moments that all of you said were most memorable in a lot of different ways, right? Some of them are really intense and stick with you. Others are more lighthearted, but this is all part of the 300th episode as we look back at these and show the ones that you asked — said were the most impactful to you.”

Programming note: Dan Abrams (#Dantona) has announced that he will be in Daytona Beach next weekend for a ride-along with Lt. Richie Maher during Biketober Fest. Sean “Sticks” Larkin will substitute as studio host.

If I find it, you’re gonna go to jail, okay?…I ain’t playing.” An occupant apparently admits to some weed. Chief Taylor: “Is it in your butt crack or just in your britches?” An occupant gives up some weed and is directed to stomp it out on the side of the road.

Listen below to Chief Taylor’s recap:

  • Wheeling, W.Va. — Officer Zach Stoneking on a traffic stop. Under questioning, an occupant insists there is nothing illegal in the car. K9 alert. A female officer is en route to the scene. In the meantime, the subject allegedly admits to drugs. Officer Stoneking explains that “she said this is fentanyl. She just had it tucked in her crotch…it’s a common hiding place with females to just stuff it in their pants because it’s hard for us to get to, but she was up front about it, so on that final opportunity, at least. I don’t know if we’ll arrest her yet for it.” Abrams: “It shows how how in different parts of the country, they refer it to different ways. In Hazen, that might be referred to as her britches.”

Abrams update: “She was issued a citation for the fentanyl, and she was released.”

  • #OPL300 Flashback — a video clip of Richland County Sergeant Kenny Fitzsimmons rescues a young man from off the ledge. Abrams: “One of the most moving moments that we saw on this show…and that is one of the moments that was most requested by all of you to look back on.”
  • Knox County, Tenn. — Officer Kirsten Yule-Zaagman on scene at a Halloween event called Screamville, which includes a group of dancing witches (On Patrol: Live caption: “Witching waltz). Abrams: “What’s more fun than some witches with illuminated brooms?” While on scene, the officer walks through a haunted maze. “…If someone jumps out at me, I’m gonna lose my mind…what is it, Children of the Corn?…this is terrifying…” Abrams: “If you build it, they will come.”
  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Sgt. Maher on a traffic stop with K9 Officer Roger Lawson and other cops. The occupants were looking for a haunted house and possibly got lost in the process. One occupant has an expired license, another one is suspended, so the occupants have to switch drivers. Sgt. Maher recap: “Saw a vehicle in a neighborhood doing circles where drugs were, or still are, actively sold. Had traffic violations. Stopped them; made contact. They’re not looking for drugs. They’re looking for a haunted house. Her license is expired, his license is suspended, but they have a 17 year old that has a valid driver’s license, so they will continue their quest to find a haunted house in Daytona. I’m sure they can find one, but not where we were, though.” The sergeant also quips about “crackhead zombies” in the area. Rizzo: “Probably not what they’re looking to encounter.”
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officers Christopher Coleman and Devon Johnson disperse a large crowd. “Keep walking; let’s go.” On Patrol: Live caption: “Crowd control.” Officer Johnson: “We’re not trying to ruin [anybody’s] good time, but also we’re trying to make sure they’re safe because anything can happen.”

  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Police respond to a residence on a stabbing call, which turns out to be a false alarm. Sgt. Maher on scene: “So good news: Nobody’s stabbed right now in Daytona. She had a vision that her neighbor was stabbed. He wasn’t actually stabbed. I think she called in her premonition, maybe. I don’t know. Didn’t come true. So that was just a fun ride with red and blue lights for no reason whatsoever. So that’s it.”
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officers Coleman and Johnson conduct a traffic stop. “Why are you smoking in your mama’s car?” Officer Coleman: “So right now, we stopped this guy because of the red light he ran. He told us that he had marijuana in the car. Looks like it’s just a little bit. We haven’t looked at it yet. But if that’s all he has, we’ll be able to work with him because it wasn’t a large amount. And then he seemed like, he’s a little bit lost. He’s not from this side of town. He’s from the other side of town…”

On Patrol: Live Hour 2

  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officers Coleman and Johnson leave the above traffic stop to respond to the crime scene on a report of shot fired near the LSU campus. One confirmed victim shot in the back. A suspect fled the area. Paramedics fire are also on scene along with many cops. On Patrol: Live caption: “Investigating shooting.” Cops subsequently look for suspect at or near a Burger King in connection with an alleged disturbance there allegedly involving weapons but that doesn’t seem to pan out. • Lee County, Fla. — Deputy Mike Knapp initiates a traffic stop for alleged speeding on a car that pulled into a residential driveway. Deputy Knapp spots a baggie on the ground. The driver denies that it’s hers: “That’s not mine.” On Patrol: Live caption: “Cocaine found.” The driver is detained. Deputy Knapp cautions the driver that the the bag might be tested for DNA evidence.

Deputy Knapp initial recap: “We see this individual make a short, short stop at a known drug house…she takes off; she starts driving at a high rate of speed in the residential area. I’m going about 30 in a 25 [mile zone]. She’s pulling away. She locks it up, pulls in here, is already out of the car. It looks like she was making like a motion to get rid of something out of her hand. So I check the immediate area around there, and then find a bag of cocaine that was just freshly placed there along with she left the car in the drive when she hopped trying to get out so quickly. So we’re gonna do a probable cause search on the vehicle right now, and then we’re gonna test the cocaine.” Abrams: “So clearly not buying her story.”

  • Triple Play 300 — Abrams: “The one we showed you last night seemed more like a demolition derby, right? And we’re looking back here at some of the most interesting and impactful. And that was wild crashes from our Triple Plays over the past four seasons. Tonight, we’re changing gears a little bit, and we’re gonna take a look back at some of the — let’s called them the greatest getaways or maybe se should say attempted getaways…some of them are funny. Some of them are ridiculous. Others are dangerous…hard to believe…”:

Abrams humorously promotes the OPLstore.com merch: “…and by the way, if you buy the shirt, suddenly your body looks like Tom Rizzo. That’s the amazing thing about purchasing some of these items. It’s really incredible.”

  • Knox County, Tenn. — Officer Yule-Zaagman backs up other cops on a car accident. A vehicle flipped completely flipped upside down. Officer Yule-Zaagman makes contact with the driver and emphathetically makes sure she is okay. “That’s a pretty gnarly one. There’s not a scratch on you…I’m glad you’re okay…I’m sorry that happened…” Officer Yule-Zaagman also observes. Apparently the driver was allegedly reaching for a cup. Earlier, the officer quips “I wonder if the cup is salvageable.” A tow truck right-sizes the vehicle. Abrams: “She’s lucky she’s getting out of it with, it looks like, not a major scratch.” Rizzo: “And it’s a good reminder, right? Taking your eye off the road for second like that…thankfully, she’s okay…”
  • #OPL300 Flashback — vocal woman who interacts with deputies.
  • Wheeling, W.Va. — In a friendly and brief interaction, Officer Herron makes contact with a couple in a closed park area and politely implies that they move on. “I need to talk to you about being down here at night, that’s all…not trying to give you a hard time, but we enforce it for everybody because even though you’re not really doing anything crazy, then I can’t like not tell you, and then the guy that’s drinking and smoking dope down here…” On Patrol: Live caption: “First date.” The male tells the officer that the first date is going “fantastic.” Abrams: “We didn’t get to hear from her how it’s going…but maybe she’s doesn’t think so. I don’t know…”
  • Richland County, S.C. — Master Deputy Avery Arrington makes a friendly, jovial traffic stop on a truck possibly for a straddling lanes. Expired temporary tag. The vehicle has two flat tires. Deputy Arrington: “Well, those are nice rims, though…stop hitting potholes.”

  • Richland County, S.C. — Captain Danny Brown makes friendly contact with a homeowner hosting a birthday party and politely asks him to move cars parked by guests that are blocking the road such that emergency vehicles can’t get by if necessary. He also, of course, smells weed, and provides a related warning to “squash” the weed. Listen below to Captain Brown’s recap (“complaints solved”):

Abrams: “How could it be a 300th episode without Captain Danny Brown smelling weed?”

  • Knox County, Tenn.On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of screaming in the woods.” Officer Yule-Zaagman makes contact with homeowners with regard to that complaint and then investigates in a nearby wooded area. K9 Officer Ashley Coons is also on scene. Officer Yule-Zaagman: “So it sounds like there is a trail here behind this house that is onto some green space, and there’s possibly, maybe, a homeless encampment there, so we’re gonna go and see if we can find anybody.”
  • #OPL300 Memorable Moments including the stick of butter guy, the shaggin’ wagon, and the naked man defecating in the Nye County desert.

Rizzo: “I just hope he didn’t wipe with a cactus.” Abrams: “Public Enemy No. 2.” Wilson: “Fertilize the ground.”

  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Sgt. Maher and Dets. Hurst and Lawson on a traffic stop apparently for an alleged seat belt violation. Two occupants. Bleeping. One of the occupants appears to rip up the ticket. An officer on scene warns the individual that if he could be arrested for littering if he tosses the papers on the ground. Sgt. • Knox County, Tenn. (pre-recorded segment) — Abrams introduces the segment by quipping that “K9 Officer Zachary Doss responded to a fight at a hotel between a boyfriend and girlfriend. And let’s just say, at times, officers needed an interpreter who could speak fluent ‘drunk.'” Police end up detaining a woman on scene.

Listen below as Officer Doss indicates that the subject apparently “is going to jail tonight for domestic assault…her and alcohol don’t mix,” after which Abrams explains that “according to police, the woman allegedly threw her phone at her boyfriend’s head…”

  • Missing segment — Everett, Wash., preceded by an update from Angeline Hartmann about the 42 children who have been found safe thanks, in part, to #OPNation.
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officers Coleman and Johnson conduct a traffic stop. One of the occupants pours out an open container. Listen below as Officer Johnson outlines the various reasons for the stop:
  • #OPL300 Flashback — a Toledo, Ohio, police pursuit.
  • Wheeling, W.Va. — Officer Herron initiates a traffic stop. One of the occupants seems to voluntarily pull some alleged drugs out of his pants.
  • Knox County, Tenn. — Officer Stone Collier on a friendly traffic stop; he seems to admire the customized car and discusses it with the driver. • Daytona Beach, Fla. — Sgt. Maher plus Detectives Hurst and Ashlyn Cooper on a traffic stop. They search a male and female on scene. A substance is field tested.

Sgt. Maher recap: “Driver does not have anything on him; does have marijuana in the car. He’s been completely compliant. It’s just a misdemeanor in the state of Florida. She’s not gonna go to jail for marijuana…she thought she had crack. She does not. She has fentanyl. This is what’s been plaguing the United States. She could have overdosed. We probably saved her life, but unfortunately, she’s gonna go to jail…she’s gonna get charged with possession of fentanyl…I’m glad we caught her because she smokes what she thinks is crack, and it’s actually fentanyl, we might have had an overdose death tonight.”
