Update 7/9/20: Kirk’s eulogy for WEEI:
Kirk Minihane, the host of the Kirk Minihane Show on the Barstool Sports podcast network, is taking a victory lap after the release of the spring ratings book that reflected the listenership, or specifically the lack thereof, for Boston sports radio station WEEI, his former employer.
The abrupt decision by the A&E network and Big Fish entertainment on June 10 to cancel Live PD still doesn’t sit well with fans of the immensely popular law enforcement ride-along TV show.
One of the most popular shows in the cable television space, Live PD, is officially cancelled just one day after host Dan Abrams vowed that the show would return after its hiatus.
As George Floyd-related protests continue, the Paramount Network has cancelled the the long-running reality show Cops just as its 33rd season was about to premiere.
Live PD will not air tonight or Saturday evening on the A&E Network.
In a statement, A&E explained:
“Out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives, in consultation with the departments we follow, and in consideration for the safety of all involved, we have made the decision not to broadcast Live PD this weekend.”
Update 9/7/20: Season 24 of The People’s Court premiered today, Labor Day, on a virtual basis. There was little or no perceptual technological delay in the remote connection between the litigants and the judge (or the litigants and hallway guy Doug Llewelyn), which is impressive. The show added a new segment called “after the verdict” during which Judge Milian and her husband, Judge John Schlesinger, discuss the case. Judge Milian seems quite amped up even when talking with Schlesinger. Only two (rather than the usual three) cases were heard on the new season’s debut episode. Given the remote nature of the proceedings, presumably the producers require the litigants to sign all necessary arbitration documents before the hearing to avoid any noncompliance. Wraparound guy Harvey Levin of TMZ fame answered a few legal questions from viewers (no man-or woman-on the street reactions during COVID).
In the aftermath of George Floyd-related civil unrest across the nation, Tucker Carlson delivered a 26-minute since-gone-viral monologue on his Fox News Channel show that called out Republicans and Democrat, including President Trump’s son in law, for a failure of leadership in the face of mob chaos.
Update 6/6/20: Whitlock gave a longer interview to Outkick the Coverage in which he provided his insightful perspective on a variety of issues.
About leaving FS1: “When I was presented parameters for my return to FS1, and then I looked at other options with more upside, control and freedom, it became clear returning to FS1 would be fear-based, not opportunity-based. I reject fear.”
Here’s what you missed or may have missed on Live PD this past weekend.
Live PD is the ratings-winning, three-hour law enforcement ride-along show that ordinarily airs fresh episodes on Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 9 p.m. Eastern time on the A&E television network (unless an additional, “bonus” episode airs in a given week).
