Brandon Straka, the founder of the #WalkAway campaign, says he was denied service at a New York City camera and electronics store when a sales person accused him of intending to use the equipment for “alt-right purposes.”
#WalkAway is grassroots social media initiative for disaffected Democrats and liberals to move (or consider moving) rightward and a way to share stores from those “who can no longer accept the current ideology of liberalism and what the Democratic Party has become.” It has nothing whatsoever to do with the alt-right.
In addition to Facebook platforms, #WalkAway now has a stand-alone web page.
Straka, a self-described Obama and Hillary Clinton voter before his ideological awakening, identified the store as Adorama in lower Manhattan. He suggested that the incident could provide an opportunity for dialogue and healing and asked his followers not to harass the shop.
Straka addressed what happened with Stephanie Hamill of The Daily Caller in the video below (the discussion starts at about the seven-minute mark).
Adorama issued a tweet that may be in response to what occurred when Brandon Straka tried to make a significant purchase at the store.
The Adorama Management Team deeply regrets the incident involving an employee in our store. Please know this is not who we are, and does not reflect the position of our owners or other staff members. This is being taken seriously and is being addressed with the highest priority.

Favor- PLZ do not retaliate against this camera shop. All of the other employees could not have been nicer. The reason I decided 2go forward w/ the story is because I hope 2open a conversation between me &gays on the left. I’m about EMPOWERING gay people. https://t.co/ICsiyXOXA5

In a tweet earlier today, Straka noted that the Adorama CEO called him to apologize.
Last night the CEO of @adorama camera store &I spoke on the phone. He was a total gentleman and very apologetic about my incident being refused service in the store. Adorama is a great store with great service, unfortunately one person chose to act outside the company’s values.
