On Patrol: Live Tonight

A Clayton County SWAT operation and a Tempe shooting investigation were the primary focal points of this all-new episode of On Patrol: Live on Reelz, which happens to be episode three of Season 5.

See below for details on all 22 law enforcement encounters across 10 scheduled police departments in this On Patrol: Live episode guide (although the Dorchester County, S.C., Sheriff’s Office did not appear). And check back for updates or potential updates on open or inconclusive incidents including the two mentioned above. Note: Colton, Calif., PD, which has been on the roster, was not scheduled.

#OPLive host Dan Abrams is hyping a so-called big announcement scheduled for the July 24th episode, which has prompting speculation within #OPNation. According to Abrams, it’s not an extra hour for the show, however.

OPL stats 07_17_26
  • Toledo, Ohio On Patrol: Live caption: “Boat fire at Toledo Yacht Club.” In the video clip below, Officers Dallas Kwapich and Eric Draper, along with other cops and paramedics, respond to the scene.
  • Tempe, Ariz. — Sergeant Andres Molina backs up several other officers. On Patrol: Live caption: “Suspect in custody.” The subject is arrested for alleged trespassing.
  • Clayton County, Ga. — Lieutenant Joseph Tombs and other deputies detain several individuals at an apartment complex. Lt. Toombs interacts with a vocal female on scene. #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “We’ll come back here and see what ends up happening there.” #OPLive studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “Besides needing Advil.” Abrams: “[Toombs is] trying to take it down.” #OPLive studio analyst Curtis Wilson: “De-escalate; sort it out.” Abrams update: “Lieutenant Toombs arrived on that scene where they were serving a warrant for a threat. Again, a separate scene…he detained those four people in the apartment building. They were all released with no charges.”
  • Toledo, Ohio (pre-recorded segment) — In the video clip below, Officers Kwapich and Draper respond to a possible home intruder and clear the residence:

Listen below to Dan Abrams, Tom Rizzo, and Curtis Wilson in the On Patrol: Live studio react to this incident:

  • Greene County, Mo. — Deputy Isiah Houseknecht initiates a traffic stop on a pickup truck. Consensual vehicle search. Deputy Houseknecht: “…people can get really creative where they hide their stuff.” Both cooperative occupants are subsequently released.
  • Clayton County, Ga. On Patrol: Live caption: “Serving warrant for threat to shoot.” Sergeant Welkind Saint-Jean and SWAT converge on a residence to serve the aforementioned warrant on person police have apparently verified is being inside. Drone deployed. #OPLive studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “…they’re gonna use all that intel that they could possibly gather before taking any type of action. They want to avoid some type of encounter. They’d rather have the guy come out to them, but they’re clearly prepared to make entry — and tactical at that.” Eventually, and after repeated announcements over the PA, a male is detained on scene. On Patrol: Live caption: “Suspect in custody.”

Listen below to Tom Rizzo and Curtis Wilson in the On Patrol: Live studio discuss various tactical aspects of this kind of SWAT operation:

Sgt. Saint-Jean update: “Right now, we’re able to safely get the subject in custody. We [were] able to breach the room that he was confined in, and as soon as we breached the room, he was standing or sitting down near the room door. Once we observed him, he didn’t have a weapon on his person, we quickly took him into custody without incident.” Abrams: “He is insisting, what, they have the wrong guy, or he doesn’t know why. It’s not uncommon to hear that.”

  • Fullerton, Calif. — Officers Dillan Caines and Dylan Valdez detain a male pedestrian. Officer Valdez preliminary recap: “…so as far right now, the littering was the reason for the detainment, possible paraphernalia, but as of right now, because he resisted, it’s going to be resisting arrest…”
  • Richland County, S.C. — Lieutenant Chris Blanding responds to a report of a fight at a fast-food restaurant and makes contact with the manager about what happened. The suspect drove off, but the manager provides Lt. Blanding with the license plate tag number. Store surveillance video to be reviewed. Lt. Blanding preliminary recap: “Appears someone was mad about, I guess, the sauce that they got. So he came inside and started throwing the sauce at one of the workers here.”

Lt. Blanding further recap: “I guess the male came through the drive-thru, was ordering food, and I guess some words were exchanged about some sauce or something. So he drove around here, went inside, started throwing sauce at one of the females and the manager here. And I guess after that, he left. So we were right here at the intersection. We just didn’t know which vehicle, instead of just an assault just occurred, but no description. So we’re gonna ride around for a little bit, see if he’s in the area, and see where that tag comes back to, see if it’s anywhere local.”

On Patrol: Live Hour 2

  • Richland County, S.C. — Master Deputy Cordell Brown initiates a friendly traffic stop for a tag issue which results in a warning. “Work together as a team.” Two occupants. On Patrol: Live caption: “Chivalry in progress.”

Deputy Brown recap: “So basically, we just had a vehicle that didn’t have a license plate. They’re from Georgia, so apparently Georgia must have their plates in the front. So when the plate fell off, they went to go get tape, but they didn’t think about just trying to prop it up and put it together, and then just come up with a game plan. So they came up with a game plan…” Abrams: “And grandpa’s apparently the one who puts license plates up…” Wilson: “At least grandma knows they made it to South Carolina.” Abrams: “Exactly. Grandma’s watching the show, I’m sure. And grandma, they’re doing okay…”

  • Clayton County, Ga. (pre-recorded segment) — Lt. Toombs and colleagues, including Deputies Desmond Whitson and William Owenby, conduct a traffic stop at gunpoint on an allegedly fleeing vehicle. The driver is arrested on various charges. Deputy Owenby and Lt. Toombs provide a recap in the video clip embedded below:

Lt. Toombs: “You’re in Clayton County. Your ass is going to jail. I don’t give a f— about the money. I care about the drugs….” Subject: “…I don’t do drugs, sir…”

Dan Abrams: “Who knew that spiritualism paid so well. And in cash, by the way.”

Curtis Wilson: “Also, too, during this chase, you kept hearing the deputy key on the mic saying ‘throwing out the window, throwing out the window.’ What he’s doing is using, of course, his dash cam, and also alerting the other officers who are also in this chase to know exactly — he’s marking where these things are that this individual’s throwing out.”

  • Triple Play #1 — an Arkansas State Police/local police pursuit by the Taylor LEO family (i.e., Trooper Gavin Taylor and Hazen, PD, Chief Bradley Taylor).
  • Berkeley County, S.C. — Corporal Bryson Fowler on a traffic stop. On Patrol: Live caption: “Suspected DUI.” A deputy in the traffic unit is called to the scene to conduct field sobriety testing after which the driver is arrested. Abrams: “As we were talking about, when you ask ‘is there something I can hold on to?,’ during a field sobriety test, that’s not usually a great sign.”

Listen below to Cpl. Fowler’s preliminary assessment at the stop:

  • Baton Rouge, La. — On a traffic stop, Officer Jacob Jenkins admonishes the driver for not using the child seat for the toddler in the car. “…I’m not big on traffic tickets, but having a child that small, not in a car seat, is kind of just ridiculous..” Ticket issued. Officer Jenkins: “…I’m doing that for you because, like, that’s the next generation. Their lives are very precious. And people get in very bad wrecks around here…” To #OPNation, Officer Jenkins says “there’s very few things that just get my blood boiling but that just one. And then to blame it on your child is crazy…”
  • Tempe, Ariz. — Sgt. Molina makes contact with a female and a male in a tunnel. On Patrol: Live caption: “Outstanding warrants.” According to Sgt. Molina, the female allegedly didn’t show up for court.
  • Clayton County, Ga. — Lt. Toombs and other deputies detain a man outside a gas station. Paraphernalia stomped out. The subject and a companion are released. On Patrol: Live host Dan Abrams: “I don’t know if they’re a couple…you just never know.” Rizzo: “You should never judge.” On Patrol: Live studio analyst Curtis Wilson: “Somebody for everybody.” Abrams: “…we don’t know if they’re a couple, friends, if they just met…but I had to say it, because I think a lot of people were probably wondering…” On Patrol: Live studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “I know I am.”

Listen below to Lt. Toomb’s give a brief tutorial on the dangers of the kinds of illegal drugs that police often encounter:

Lt. Toombs: “…this is that backwoods sh*t right here that rots people’s teeth out…

  • Richland County, S.C. (pre-recorded segment) — In the video clip below, Master Deputy Luke Martin conducts a traffic stop, with, according to Abrams “some pretty heavy artillery inside,” in an alleged known drug area for expired tags. Car search. Two of three occupants arrested.
  • Richland County, S.C. — Lt. Blanding, Deputy Martin, and others on a pedestrian stop. The subject is subsequently released with a warning stay out of the road or train tracks.

Listen below to Lt. Blanding’s recap of this incident:

On Patrol: Live Hour 3

  • Clayton County, Ga. — Lt. Toombs and other cops, including Deputy Owenby, conduct a car search at a traffic stop for a tag light issue. Cops allegedly spot some weed residue. The driver, whose license is allegedly expired, is subsequently released with a warning.
  • Tempe, Ariz. On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of shooting.” Officer Saul Espino makes contact with the occupants of a vehicle, one of whom was shot in the chest. On Patrol: Live caption: “Treating shooting victim.” Paramedics called to the scene and transport the victim to the hospital. On Patrol: Live caption: “Investigating shooting.” Sgt. Molina and several other officers separately converge on an apartment complex where the shooting allegedly occurred. Abrams with regard to the latter: “They called this a welfare check, but as you can see, I think it’s a bit more than that.” K9 deployed. Police announce their presence and ask the occupants of a specific apartment unit to make themselves known and exit with their hands up. Apparently no one was inside, however. Investigation ongoing, including search warrant applications.

Officer Espino preliminary incident assessment: “So far, we don’t know what exactly is happening in terms of the gunshot and how he obtained it. Our victim is saying that he was standing by the front door of his apartment, and he got shot in the chest, coming up to the shoulder. There [are] gonna be cameras as well in the front of their apartment, so that’s something we could look into, but as of right now, we have no suspect information. We don’t even have anybody IDed…”

Dan Abrams: “So you’re seeing both treatment and investigation going on at the same time in real time.”

Listen below to some additional information from Sgt. Molina:

Listen below to a further update on the continuing investigation, including evidence gathering, from Sgt. Molina:

  • Baton Rouge, La. On Patrol: Live captions: “Searching for drag racers,” “Traffic stop involving 6 vehicles.” Officer Jenkins and colleagues are on scene where they pull over the cars. Tom Rizzo: “Parade of Camaros.” Officer Jenkins: “..but as long as y’all are cooperative, we’ll work with y’all…” Abrams: “So sounds like [Officer Jenkins is] ready to let these folks go with a ticket. But let’s see. I think it’s gonna depend on how things go for the next few minutes.”
  • Henry County, Va. — As the episode concludes (see video clips embedded below), Deputy Logan Bowman responds to a possible disorderly person at a hotel; in one of the clips below, Dan Abrams also continues to tease “a big announcement” on next Friday’s #OPLive episode, i.e., July 24. As part of that theme, Dan Abrams and Tom Rizzo switch positions at the studio anchor desk.
