According to Outkick reporter David Hookstead, the “must-watch” Out-laws is, among other things, an “incredibly fun” comedy and “wildly entertaining.”

That analysis prompted us to post the following comment under his review:

DH seems like a nice guy, but he tends to overpraise mediocre content, Outer Range being one example. Reasonable people can disagree, [but] it speaks volumes about the sad state of Hollywood if The Out-Laws is really “one of the best comedies [he’s] seen in a long time.” Not sure if it’s completely non-woke, either.

Given that it’s from Happy Madison Productions, I expected another [one] of [Adam] Sandler’s cash for clunkers. It does have some funny dialogue along the way — which was a pleasant surprise. Hardly “nonstop laughs,” however.

Unfortunately, about halfway through, the storyline switches from a farce to a too-preposterous, quasi action movie. It should have stayed as a farce. Also, the actors mostly seem to be phoning it in, with the exception of [Adam] Devine, who puts 100% percent into portraying his very annoying character.

Even in the context of make believe, moreover, there’s no way the Owen character can attract a woman like [Nina] Dobrev’s character, let alone get her to marry him.

The Out-Laws — although it does exceed expectations.
