You don’t have to be a fan of controversial, fringe Infowars at all, for example, to be concerned about the implications for free speech. The latest bans, which also includes independent journalist Laura Loomer, appears to be a warm-up act by social media platforms for future censorship of mainstream conservatives, populists, and libertarians heading into the 2020 election.

In the video embedded above, Tucker Carlson weighed in on Facebook bans:

“Mark Zuckerberg is not simply censoring opinions; he’s prescribing which political opinions you’re allowed to have, which conversations all of us in this country can have about America. Keep in mind that nobody voted for Mack Zuckerberg,,,and yet he can single-handedly make our First Amendment irrelevant after 250 years.”

President Trump has tweeted about this situation, but will he actually do anything concrete about it?

Never Trumper Ben Shapiro actually wrote a good column posted at The Daily Wire about the Big Tech ban of “famed nut case Alex Jones” and his “dumpster fire conspiracy outlet”:

“These policies aren’t merely designed to crack down on speech openly advocating or threatening violence, or containing obscenity. These policies are deliberately unclear as well as political…How exactly are we supposed to trust in free and open debate when those setting the limits are openly setting them up with embedded double-standards? The answer is, we don’t. Trust in social media is declining nearly as fast as trust in media overall. There’s a reason for that. And it’s not because social media tolerates voices like Jones. It’s because they don’t tolerate voices like Jones while tolerating voices who are just as bad on the political Left – and they show no signs of limiting their censorship to Alex Jones.”
