As it returns from a three-week hiatus, Live PD, the top-rated law enforcement ride-along show is changing up its format for the April 3 and 4 episodes.

It should come as no particular surprise that the content is pivoting to a coronavirus theme.

Government-imposed social distancing is resulting in most of the Live PD crew at the New York City headquarters of the A&E network to work remotely and is imposing restrictions on videographers and producers in the field.

Variety has the details:

Live PD: Special Edition will air for one hour on Friday night, as well as for two hours on Saturday night, both at 9 p.m. ET, in place of normal three-hour Live PD episodes…The special edition will feature interviews with medical authorities and testimonials from law enforcement and government officials, and include reports from hospitals. The special editions will also look at those community members who are serving on the front line of the pandemic, including EMTs in New Orleans…

“Beyond this weekend, it’s unclear how or when Live PD will continue, but it will likely be back with a reduced crew and a revised schedule to focus on its usual subjects in addition to coronavirus response.”

Host Dan Abrams and regular studio analysts Tom Morris, Jr. and Tulsa, Okla., PD Sgt. Sean “Sticks” Larkin will anchor the special edition broadcasts as usual, albeit from their homes.

The Live PD recaps posted each week on this blog are on pause until the show resumes its regular night-patrol coverage.
