On Patrol: Live Recap for Friday, October 16, 2026 (#OPL Episode 05-25)

OPL stats 10_16_26
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Officer Christopher Coleman and colleagues initiate a traffic stop. Bleeping. Car search. On Patrol: Live caption/banner: “Marijuana and gun found.” Officer Coleman and the driver are apparently acquainted with each other. Driver: “I make your sandwich when you come in Subway.” Officer Coleman: “I do appreciate that, but like you do your job there; I have to do my job here.” Corporal Jermaine Javius and Sergeant Jordon Lear are among the officers on scene.

On Patrol: Live studio host Dan Abrams: “So that’s the guy who makes his sandwiches. I would think, as a cop, you probably face some sort of situation like this where you get a little worried about the ‘special sauce.” #OPLive studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “And when a person calls back to the kitchen, ‘hey, number four for the police.'” #OPLive studio analyst Sean Larkin: “You try to order from places where you’re watching them make your food.”

Officer Coleman: “I guess I can’t go back to Subway…I like that Subway, too…”

Listen below to Officer Coleman provide the reasoning for the arrest:

  • Richland County, S.C. — Master Deputy Andreona Sanders makes contact with a male in connection with a dispute over the sale of a lawnmower. The other party is apparently on the phone. On Patrol: Live caption: “Mower money mystery.” #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “I don’t know that everyone’s gonna be sitting on the edge of their seats to find out what happens here.”
  • Tempe, Ariz. — Officer Max Staab conducts a traffic stop for an alleged stolen plate. The driver says the plate belongs to her boyfriend. On Patrol: Live caption: “Investigating stolen plates.” Police take the plate and release the driver.

Listen below to Officer Staab’s recap of this stop:

#OPLive host Dan Abrams: “There’s a lesson here, which is, don’t give $650 to a boyfriend whose last name you don’t know.”

  • Baton Rouge, La. (pre-recorded segment) — In the video clip below, Officers along with K9 Zeus conduct a traffic stop at gunpoint on an alleged stolen pickup truck. Cpl. Javius: “The K9 is badass, bro.” #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “Just the sound of the K9, the look of the K9.” #OPLive studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “It’ll do it every time.” Abrams: “Leads to a lot of compliance.”
  • Richland County, S.C. — Deputy Sanders has to leave the above call to respond to a report of an alleged strong-armed robbery. She provides back on a traffic stop on a potential suspect vehicle. Six occupants are detained. Car search. Guns allegedly found. On Patrol: Live caption: “Investigating strong-armed robbery.” Police review video footage of what appears to be an assault during a robbery. #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “Question is whether the folks in that car were involved.” The investigation is ongoing.

#OPLive studio host Dan Abrams: “That’s some brutal video.” #OPLive studio analyst Sean Larkin: “It’s infuriating.” #OPLive studio analyst Tom Rizzo: “It just boils your blood to see somebody helpless like that, and you can’t imagine the trauma that they’re experiencing of not knowing what’s happening to them — all for what? For some type of benefit, for a piece of jewelry or some cell phone or money.” Abrams: “Now they got to try and match up what they see on that video with — are any of the people there? Remember, initially it was 15 or 20 possibly. It could be, for all we know, like another group.” Larkin: “Those might not actually be the guys.”

Listen below to Lieutenant Chris Blanding’s preliminary recap of this incident:

  • BOLO segment — Oklahoma County, Okla. #OPLive host Dan Abrams previews the segment by quipping that “deputies…are going to need your help to track down a burglar who went through some great ‘panes’ to escape.”
  • Idaho Falls, Idaho — Officer Braden Bestor and other cops make contact with a U-Haul store employee in connection with some sort of disturbance. The subject on a skateboard had already left the scene. On Patrol: Live caption: “Trespassed from property.” Cops are unable to find the subject.
  • Dorchester County, S.C. — Lieutenant Michael Contino and Sergeant Zachary Brisson make a traffic stop on a pickup truck for an alleged mismatched plate. It turns out that there is no violation, however.

Lt. Contino explains: “So the confusion was, if you look at the car — GMC Sierra…run the tag, comes back to a Chevy Silverado. He’s saying that the front part is a Silverado, the VIN comes to a Silverado, but they had to get the truck bed replaced. So when that happened, they put the GMC truck bed on a Silverado front of the car. Has the front emblem on the grill is a Chevy symbol. Chevy symbol on the tires, on the hubcap…never seen that before. Something new for me; twelve years of doing this, have not seen kind of a half and half of a pickup truck. So, of course, we thought the tag didn’t match the car because it doesn’t really match the back of the car, but it matches the front. So that’s a new one.” #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “Franken truck.” #OPLive studio analyst Rizzo: “I thought that’s the definition of a hybrid…”

On Patrol: Live Hour 2

  • Idaho Falls, Idaho — Officer Bestor and another cop make cordial contact with a female in a hotel room and advise her that management has trespassed her. “The hotel says that you’ve been trespassed previously…that was a while ago, right? Okay, they want to reinstate that trespass…it’s good for a year…if you come back, it’s a misdemeanor…” The cooperative subject leaves the location promptly. Officer Bestor: “So she left willingly; no issues…”
  • Triple Play #1 — an Arkansas State Police pursuit of a Chevy Tahoe.
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Sgt. Lear makes friendly contact on scene on, according to #OPLive host Dan Abrams, “what may be an illegal barbecue.” On Patrol: Live caption: “Fur coat Friday.” Cpl. Javius and Officer Coleman are also present at the location.
  • Idaho Falls, Idaho — On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of domestic assault.” Sergeant Kevin Goms and other cops respond to an apartment complex. A pregnant woman might be the victim. Upon arrival, a scream is allegedly heard, but no one answers the door of a specific apartment unit. A standoff outside that door occurs for a period of time. It turns out that the parties are allegedly elsewhere nearby. Cops question the male with #OPLive cameras recording the interaction. Investigation continues.

Listen below to #OPLive studio analysts Sean Larkin and Tom Rizzo explain under what circumstances, if any, is it permissible for police to force entry without a warrant:

Sgt. Goms preliminary recap: “Sounds like they got him. He did flee the apartment, but it’s unknown if there’s actually any charges. Sounds like they’re saying on the radio that there’s no charges, as of right now, that she’s saying nothing happened, but they both fled the apartment. So it’s unknown why they did that. Sounds like they’re actually just across the street over here.” #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “Sounds like they fled, or left, the house, so there’s still a lot of questions to be answered here.”

  • Richland County, S.C. — On Patrol: Live caption: “Landlord dispute.” Sergeant TJ Norton makes friendly contact with the animated complainant. The other party, apparently the tenant, is not on scene. Sgt. Norton: “…There’s not a lot we can do for him here. Guy’s not here…maybe he just wanted to talk to us and vent a little bit…”

Listen below to Sgt. Norton’s jovial recap:

  • Greene County, Mo. — On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of people shooting from cars.” In the course of an investigation in the area, Sergeant Paige Rippee is among the cops who converge on a car. Deputy Joe Williams is also on scene. Sgt. Rippee: “So it sounds like at this point, [Springfield] PD has one driver detained. It’s kind of unclear right now if this vehicle’s even involved…so either they are shooting at each other or one shooting at one, and he dumped in here just to get away from us. So I think they’re gonna do their investigation, and we will continue to look out for…the suspect vehicle.” #OPLive host Dan Abrams: “So this may be one of the two vehicles. They think it is, but the investigation continues.”

On Patrol: Live Hour 3

  • Toledo, Ohio — On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of shooting.” On the way to this call, Officers Hunter Bachman and Logan Hosley get into a minor fender bender with another vehicle. Detectives Rob Tyburski and Steve Kucinski separately respond to the scene. It turns out that it was an accidental shooting. Paramedics on scene transport a 17-year-old male to the hospital with a leg wound.
  • Triple Play #2 — an Everett, Wash., stolen 18-wheeler pursuit.
  • Idaho Falls, Idaho — Sgt. Goms responds to a report of a hotel break-in. No #OPL update provided.
  • Bernalillo County, N.M. — Deputy Richard Castillo and other units respond to a group playing drums in the middle of the street with synchronized dancers. The deputy mentions that the main issue is the cars blocking traffic that need to be moved. “Celebrate your tradition, but you can’t just block off the roadways.” When On Patrol: Live cameras subsequently return to the scene, #OPLive host Dan Abrams refers to “the powwow that is blocking the street. They’re trying to be respectful, but also, as Deputy Castillo pointed out, that doesn’t mean they can just block the roads.”
  • Baton Rouge, La. — Sgt. Lear, Officer Coleman, and Cpl. Javius, and other cops make a traffic stop for allegedly crossing over multiple lanes and no seat belt in use. Alleged odor of weed. Car search.

Sgt. Lear preliminary assessment: “…he says he’s going to get a massage. Not normally the normal time to get a massage. And he’s just joy riding, and not saying that that’s illegal, but where he’s at, it just doesn’t make much sense for us. So we’re gonna dig into it a little more, find out what he’s doing, and what kind of massage he can be going to get at this time of the night, because I don’t think he can get a legal one at this time of the night.”

#OPLive host Dan Abrams quips that “I don’t even think you could find even in New York City a place to get a massage this late, right Sean?” #OPLive studio analyst Sean Larkin: “I decline.”

  • Richland County, S.C. — In the video clip below, Sgt. Norton responds to a report of a fight in progress at a Waffle House. That restaurant appears to be mostly empty, however. It turns out that he may have been dispatched to the wrong Waffle House outlet. On Patrol: Live studio analyst Tom Rizzo quips that “maybe they offer massages there…”
  • Toledo, Ohio — On Patrol: Live caption: “Report of urination and masturbation in progress.” In the video clip below, Officers Bachman and Hosley make contact with a male in an apartment unit and give a warning.
  • Dorchester County, S.C. — On Patrol: Live caption: “Woofers and Waffles.” In the video clip below, the featured deputies plus Lieutenant Londie Richardson and Corporal Barry Lowe respond to a possible disturbance at a Waffle House where a large crowd is present.
  • Bernalillo County, N.M. — As the episode concludes, Deputy Daniel Barela makes a traffic stop on a car covered with a Halloween decoration for an obscured plate. The driver is apparently released with a warning.

Last night was as close to perfect as an episode that we could ever ask for.. Between all of the action, weird and hysterically funny moments, educational parts, and as always, the infinite bravery, wisdom, and patience the officers exercise combines to create a three hour watching experience we could not experience anywhere else. I am still blown away with gratitude to have the opportunity watch this amazing show weekly. I’m exponentially grateful to have acquired friends that are closer to us than any blood family member just from bonding over watching it. Last night was the type of show you just won’t forget for awhile,if ever. Your recaps are the absolute perfect companion and historical record to ensure we don’t.
