Two men who allegedly assaulted Germantown, Md., resident Atsu Mable, a Trump supporter, are in police custody. Mable, an immigrant from Togo, was merely walking in his neighborhood last Saturday evening after dinner while wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat when the duo confronted him.

From Fox5DC:

“Mable says the two men began harassing him as soon as they spotted his MAGA hat — shouting that he take it off. He told them he is entitled to his political views and tried to walk away but says they became violent and repeatedly hit him until he fell to the ground. Mable says he came to the United States legally from Togo in West Africa in 2007 and is now a U.S. citizen. He says he has supported the Republican Party and President Donald Trump from the beginning, attending campaign events and even volunteering during Trump’s inauguration.”

After a witness called 911, responding cops located the suspects at a local playground and charged them with “robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and second-degree assault, as well as related crimes,” The Hill reported.

In a press release detailing the incident and the subsequent arrest, Montgomery County Police said that the investigation is ongoing.

An American citizen since 2013, Mable switched his political registration from independent to Republican so he could vote for Donald Trump in the Maryland Republican primary. He told WJLA the following about the POTUS:

“I like everything that he does. Like, I came here legally. Why can’t all people come here legally then? I went through the right process, the proper channels and I’m here, so why can’t they do the same thing?”

Verbal and/or physical attacks on MAGA fans have become commonplace, with several in the last few weeks alone.

“The caps with Trump’s signature slogan have been at the center of multiple altercations since Trump’s presidential campaign,”The Hill added.

“While hard data is difficult to gather, there appears to have been a massive uptick in political violence against supporters of President Donald J. Trump in the last year. Last week three prominent conservatives, Owen Shroyer, Brandon Straka, and Michael Knowles, were physically attacked for supporting President Trump within hours of each other,” Big League Politics reported yesterday.
