I’m so glad you addressed this,Robert. As a lifelong Yankee fan, naturally I hold many opinions on this. For all intents and purposes, until proven otherwise,I think they should change the team slogan to “The New York Yankees-Satisfied With Almost Since 2010”. I say this because the issues that have resulted in the trophy case being locked for 17 years may be slightly different every year, but are always plainly obvious to fans who spend their time and money rooting for them. Unfortunately,at every postmortem, Cashman not only doubles down on the way the team does things, but condescends and gaslights us,telling us we are clueless and have no idea what we’re talking about. With Judge or without him, this team lost its swagger somewhere along the way. They have no identity, and from the outside looking in appear to have no will to go the extra mile to win it all. I’m not totally against analytics, but even the most diehard of number crunchers can’t deny that this team doesn’t work deep into counts anymore. Even the increase in stolen bases this year was a mirage. That’s because the team OBP was only .311,one of the lowest rates in years for a Yankee team. To hear Boone incessantly claim that every mistake in the field or base running blunder is “just baseball” is insanely disingenuous. Just finishing above .500 for 30+ years is not enough for the supposed “most prestigious franchise in sports” to hang their hat on. I think we all believe that it shouldn’t take a squad of MIT grads to put together a well rounded team that doesn’t have multiple players striking out 200 times a year. We must demand change,or or send Hal the message by not spending your hard earned money until they show a willingness to not wither and die every single year. Unfortunately, the upcoming lockout may make change impossible! In the meantime, just keep letting your opinion be known to the front office. They can’t ignore us forever.
